She is the 7th of 11 siblings.
She said that when her producers asked her to change her singing style from gospel to R&B, 'I was like, 'Don't tell me what to do. I've sung all my life.' '
'I Can't Stand The Rain' was the only one of her songs to make the Pop Top 40.
When the R&B hits dried up, she returned to gospel.

John Lennon said of 'I Can't Stand The Rain,' 'It's the best song ever.'
'I Can't The Rain' became a disco hit for Eruption, was covered by Tina Turner and was interpolated into Missy Elliott's 'The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).'
She appeared with Elliott on The Late Show with David Letterman when Elliott sang 'The Rain.'
