The Resume

    (October 8, 1929-May 5, 2002)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Son of Michael Todd and his first wife, Bertha Freshman
Produced the film ‘Scent of Mystery’ (1960)

Why he might be annoying:

He was two years older than his stepmother, Elizabeth Taylor.
He was hired as vice-president of Cinerama, a company his dad was one of the founders of.
He produced the show ‘America, Be Seated’ for the 1964 New York Worlds Fair; it closed after two performances.
The big innovation introduced in ‘Scent of Mystery’ was Smell-O-Vision, a system to pipe odors to each seat in theater.
Smell-O-Vision cost $25 to $30 per seat to install at a time when the average movie ticket cost less than a dollar.
Aromas were released with a distracting hiss and were usually followed by an equally distracting chorus of loud sniffles as audience members tried to catch the scent.

Why he might not be annoying:

Roger Ebert commented, ‘If Todd Jr. were a bit taller, he would be of the type described as tall, dark and handsome.’
He filmed the most remembered segment of ‘This Is Cinerama’ (1952), a roller coaster ride shot from the point-of-view of a rider in the front car.
When ‘Scent of Mystery’ was re-released without smells as ‘Holiday in Spain,’ it made a modest profit.
3-D movies made a comeback; maybe Smell-O-Vision will be next.
