Why they might be annoying:

There comedy was based on destruction of other people's property.
Laurel unwittingly got himself and Hardy into a predicament, Hardy would say 'This is another fine mess you've gotten me into,' and then Laurel would cry.

Why they might not be annoying:

They really liked each other and maintained a friendship up until Oliver Hardy's death.
When Hardy was dying and lost the use of his voice due to strokes, Laurel would visit him and they would communicate by mime.
They were considered easy to work with.
