Why he might be annoying:

He was an 'all or nothing' hitter.
He constantly gets overlooked when it comes to voting for great sluggers.
He left the Reds after the 1981 season due to a salary dispute.
When his playing time with the Mets was reduced he claimed it was because the team was racist.

Why he might not be annoying:

He holds the Reds' team record for most home runs (52 in 1977) and RBI's (149 in 1977) in a season.
In a 1978 game against the Phillies, he hit 3 home runs, the shortest one traveling 461 feet.
He could regularly threw runners out at the plate from the warning track in left field, without having to throw to the cut off man.
