The Resume

    (April 14, 1929-December 5, 1989)
    Born in Hartford, Connecticut
    Full name: George Selden Thompson
Author best known for 'The Cricket in Times Square'
    Graduate of Yale University

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote very little besides 'The Cricket in Times Square' and its six sequels.
He wrote the decidedly creepy, and somewhat turgid, 'The Story of Harold' about a bisexual novelist who befriends a young boy.
Besides an animated short of 'The Cricket in Times Square,' none of his work has been filmed.

Why he might not be annoying:

'The Cricket in Times Square' won the 1961 Newberry Medal, became an instant classic, and is one of the most loved children's books of all time.
In addition to graduating Yale and studying at Columbia, he was a Fulbright Scholar in Rome in the early fifties.
The choice of Garth Williams to illustrate 'The Cricket in Times Square' and it's sequels (reportedly Selden's decision) was perfect and resulted in one of the most superbly illustrated children's books ever.
He was a deeply private man and very little is known about his personal/private life.
While at Yale, he was a member of the Elizabethan Club and wrote for the campus literary magazine.
