Baseball Player

The Resume

    (May 23, 1912-December 28, 1993)
    Born in Berkely, California
Birth name is August John Galan
Outfielder for the Chicago Cubs (1934–41), Brooklyn Dodgers (1941–46), Cincinnati Reds (1947–48), New York Giants (1949) and Philadelphia Athletics (1949)
    .287 career batting average
    100 Home runs, 1,706 hits
    Three-time All-Star (1936, 1943, 1944)

Why he might be annoying:

He was often injured during crucial games.
He didn't get a lot of playing time - until World War II got half of Baseball's biggest stars sent overseas.
He had arguably his best season in 1946, but ended up getting used as trade bait to bring in Ed Heusser from the Reds.
He was the first player in Major League Baseball history to play an entire season without hitting into a double play (although he did hit into a much more rare triple play).
He figured into an episode of Leave it to Beaver after Beaver accidentally destroys a ball belonging to Ward that had his signature on it, in addition to Lou Gehrig's and Babe Ruth's, and signs his name Augie Dickie on a replica (so much for the Cleavers getting on Pawn Stars).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had a deformed arm from a childhood injury.
He led the National League in runs (133) and stolen bases (22) for 1935.
He played in three World Series - with the Cubs (1935, 1938) and the Dodgers (1941) - and was unfortunately on the losing end of each.
He was the first National Leaguer to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in a game (1937).
His teammates described him as even-tempered and friendly.
He spent the final years of his career on the coaching and management staff of the Philadelphia Athletics.
Despite stellar statistics, he has yet to make the Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2021.
