Poet

The Resume

    (March 1825-September 29, 1902)
Most famous poem is 'The Tay Bridge Disaster' (1879)

Why he might be annoying:

He is widely considered the worst poet in British history.
His public readings in Dundee were eventually banned for causing a 'breach of the peace,' due to the riotous barrage of fruit and vegetables inevitably launched at him.
He insisted on styling himself 'Poet to Her Majesty' after receiving a note from Queen Victoria's secretary declining a gift of his verses.
Acting in the title role of MacBeth, he refused to die after being stabbed by McDuff.
He only had a total of 18 months of education.

Why he might not be annoying:

    W. H. Auden hailed him as 'one of the greatest comic poets in English.'
A collections of his works outsell those of Robert Browning and Alfred Lord Tennyson.
He inspired the name of a character in 'The Goon Show.'
He inspired the name of Prof. Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter books.
