Why The Vampire Diaries might be annoying:

It's...another...show...about...vampires.
It jumped on the 'Twilight' and 'True Blood' bandwagon!
It probably did not help originality-wise that the protagonist was caught in a love triangle with vampires.
Many critics panned the pilot episode.
There are scenes of rampant violence and sex.
The pilot was filmed in Vancouver, but the remainder of the series was shot in Georgia.

Why The Vampire Diaries might not be annoying:

The 'New York Post' praised the portrayal of Elena, finding the character to be a strong-minded woman who doesn't allow her feelings for her boyfriend to control her.
It is not as gory and gruesome as 'True Blood.'
It gives vampire fans something to watch on television if they do not have HBO.
The show won an award for Favorite New TV Drama at the People's Choice Awards and received a nomination for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show.
