    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Columnist for the New York Times (1977-94) and Newsweek (1999-2009)
Wrote the novels 'Object Lessons' (1991), 'One True Thing' (1994), 'Black and Blue' (1998), 'Blessings' (2002), 'Rise and Shine' (2006) and 'Every Last One' (2006)

Why she might be annoying:

She said, 'I was an affirmative action hire,' having joined the Times after it was sued over its lack of female reporters.
She predicted George H.W. Bush would be re-elected in a landslide. ('I have that column on my bulletin board to remind me about the sin of hubris.')
She said, 'I hate to write. I have to force myself every day to sit down and begin.'
She gave one of her sons Quindlen as a first name.
Commenting on her frequent use of her personal life in her columns, her husband asked, 'Could you get up and get me a beer without writing about it?' She immediately asked if she could quote the line in her column.

Why she might not be annoying:

She won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary (1992).
She was the first author to top the New York Times' fiction, non-fiction and self-help best seller lists.
She left the Roman Catholic Church over the pedophilia scandal, saying 'I haven't lost my faith, but I've lost my religion.'
She criticized 'helicopter parenting,' claiming 'I was the best parent when I stood back, provided appropriate oversight, but basically got out of their way so they could be themselves.'
The Washington Post wrote, 'Quindlen could easily replace Jamie Lee Curtis as an Activia spokeswoman with her robust good health and enthusiasm for the silver years.'
