Why he might be annoying:

    As Prime Minister, he oversaw the nation's cotton production, including the use of forced labor and child labor.
    In a conference call with local authorities in cotton-producing regions, he said, 'Go to the houses of farmers in debt, who cannot repay their credit, take their cars, their livestock, and if there are none, take the slate form their roofs.' (2015)
    'The Economist' called his election 'a sham,' claiming his opponents appeared on the ballot solely to produce the illusion of pluralism.
    He spent $100 million on an exclusive mountain resort for himself and his relatives (2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He undid several policies of his predecessor that isolated the country and hindered economic growth.
    Over 330,000 new jobs were created during his first year as President.
    He settled a long-running border dispute with Kyrgyzstan.
    He shut down Jaslyk Prison, which was notorious for torturing inmates.
    He was named Asian of the Year by the Asian Journalist Association (2018)
