    Full name is Aisha bint Abu Bakr
    Second wife of Prophet Muhammad
    Married to Muhammad at age six; may have been age nine when the marriage was consummated
    Daughter of Abu Bakr, Muhammad’s successor as leader of the Muslim community

Why she might be annoying:

    She may have set a precedent for child brides in Islamic culture.
    She was accused of henpecking Muhammad.
    She was suspected of adultery after leaving her camp to look for lost jewelry.
    The choice of her father to succeed Muhammad led to warfare within the Muslim community.
    She raised an army against Muhammad’s cousin Ali.
    An American publisher refused to release a novel about her, ‘The Jewel of Medina,’ out of fear of Muslim extremists (2008).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She and her father had to flee their hometown because of persecution of Muslims.
    She was later sorry for contributing to infighting in the Muslim community.
    She was the favorite wife of Muhammad who died in her arms.
    Widowed at age 18, she was forbidden to remarry.
    She became a respected scholar who influenced much of Sharia (Muslim religious law).
