The Resume

    (December 31, 1908-September 20, 2005)
    Founded the Simon Wiesenthal Center
    Tracked down 1,100 Nazis
Won the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal and various awards from countries and WW II resistance groups

Why he might be annoying:

During the 1970s, he became involved in Austrian Politics by pointing out that some officials under Bruno Kreisky's Socialist government were former Nazis.
Bruno Kreisky responded to Wiesenthal's claims by calling him a Nestbeschmutzer (someone who dirties their own nest).
Some of his colleagues including Nazi-Hunter Tuviah Friedman had accused him of fabricating lies and making himself rich from capturing Adolf Eichmann.
He took heat from his colleagues for failing to capture Dr. Josef Mengele (some claimed he never tracked down Mengele in the first place).
Ukrainian-American writer Myron B. Kuropas denounced him for his statements about the Ukrainians, eagerly collaborating with the Gestapo and the SS during WW II.
He refused to accuse Kurt Waldheim of war crimes even though he knew Waldheim was a liar for glossing over his service during WW II.
He defended him from the Jewish World Congress as well.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended Technical University of Prague after he was denied admission to Polytechnic University of Lwów due to their quota restrictions on Jewish students.
Before the Holocaust, he was an architectural engineer.
By the time WW II ended, he barely survived after being imprisoned in 12 concentration camps.
After he recovered, he dedicated his life to hunting Nazis and bringing them to justice.
He was most famous for tracking down Adolf Eichmann and Karl Silberbauer, the Gestapo officer who arrested Anne Frank.
By finding Karl Silberbauer, he helped silence Neo-Nazi claims that Anne Frank's diary was a forgery.
Council of Europe chairman Terry Davis said: 'Without Simon Wiesenthal's relentless effort to find Nazi criminals and bring them to justice, and to fight anti-Semitism and prejudice, Europe would never have succeeded in healing its wounds and reconciling itself... He was a soldier of justice, which is indispensable to our freedom, stability and peace.'
He created the Simon Wiesenthal Center to promote awareness of anti-semitism and monitor Neo-Nazi activity.
