He was a child prodigy.
He wrote several ballets and operas.
His Oscar nomination for the first Godfather film was withdrawn when it was discovered that he had taken the love theme from an obscure Italian film made in 1958.

He composed over 150 films scores in his lifetime.
His first oratorio was performed in Paris and Milan when he was only 12 years old.
He formed a universally lauded partnership with Federico Fellini that lasted for Fellini's entire directing career.
His score for 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather Part II' earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Grammy and a BAFTA and has gone on to be one of the most recognizable and homaged themes in film history.
He won Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists Silver Ribbons for his compositions in 1957, 1958, 1964, 1969 and 1979.
