Why he might be annoying:

    He served as George W. Bush's campaign field manager in 2000 and head campaign manager in 2004.
    He was linked to a phone jamming scandal in 2002 involving the criminal trial of former RNC political director James Tobin.
    Just days after apologizing to the NAACP for the GOP's failure to reach out to African Americans, he reluctantly mentioned the 'Southern Strategy' in a CNN interview.
    He denied allegations of his homosexuality for many years.
    The Democrat Party's referendum in the 2006 midterm elections forced his resignation from his RNC chairman post.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a classmate of future president Barack Obama while Mehlman was earning his juris doctor at Harvard.
    He served as the executive leadership cabinet for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial.
    After years of denial, he officially came out as being gay in an interview with 'The Atlantic' magazine (August 2010).
    He supported the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' and the legalization of same sex marriage in the state of New York.
