Why he might be annoying:

He described his college tutors as 'Men of sharp wits, shut up in their cells of a few authors, chiefly Aristotle, their Dictator.'
He did not get along well with Queen Elizabeth I and is alleged to have had his political career held back by her.
He was removed from public office after he was found guilty of taking a bribe while a judge.
He died of bronchitis after catching a cold while conducting an experiment in which he tested the effects of cold temperatures on decaying meat by stuffing a dead chicken full of snow.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the father of the scientific method and is generally regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of science.
He entered Trinity College when he was 12 years old.
By 23 he was a member of the House of Commons.
He eventually became the Lord Chancellor of England.
Although he was found guilty of taking the bribe, it is likely that the whole case was fabricated for political reasons.
He was knighted in 1602.
Thomas Hobbes served as his secretary.
