    Born in Marshfield, Missouri
    Proved that other galaxies were located outside the Milky Way (1925)
    By measuring galaxy red-shifts, demonstrated that the universe is expanding (1929)
    Devised the Hubble sequence to classify galaxies (1926)
    Namesake of the Hubble Space Telescope

Why he might be annoying:

    After attending Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, he affected a British accent and mannerisms the rest of his life, often to the annoyance of his colleagues.
    He faked two dueling scars.
    He dumped his first sweetheart for not coming from a socially prominent family.
    He called blacks 'darkies' and 'pickaninnies.'
    He hired a publicist to campaign for a Nobel Prize.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was described by a biographer as 'almost perfectly proportioned' as a youth.
    He received a Medal of Merit for his contributions to ballistics during World War II.
    His discoveries made 'as great a change in man's conception of the universe as the Copernican revolution 400 years before.'
