The Resume

Why Skating with Celebrities might be annoying:

Its tag line is ‘Train Wreck on Ice.'
The concept is a virtual carbon copy of Dancing with the Stars, but on ice.
The judging panel clearly took its cue from American Idol: Dorothy in the Paula Abdul role, Mark channeling Simon Cowell, and John as Randy Jackson.
Cumulative scores determine who is eliminated. Contestants can be saved by an overall high score even if they received lower marks than the eliminated team (in last place, a la Amazing Race).

Why Skating with Celebrities might not be annoying:

A different specific skill is required in each new episode, thus virtually nullifying any inherent advantage a competitor may have.
Except for training hazards, there is very little drama on the ice.
No matter what the theme, the costumes range – sometimes in a single episode – from the subdued to the positively outlandish.
Women will more often than not perform in pants.
A left-handed competitor (such as Kristy Swanson or Bruce Jenner) will sometimes have a right-handed partner (such as Lloyd Eisler and Tai Babilonia, respectively).
