Produced and co-directed 'The Towering Inferno (1974)'
Produced and directed 'The Swarm (1978)' and 'Beyond the Poseidan Adventure (1979)'
Died of a heart attack at age 75

Why he might be annoying:

After 'The Poseidon Adventure' made a boatload of money he was given the nickname 'Master of Disaster.'
He is often credited with the 1974 disaster film 'Earthquake,' but had nothing to do with.
Sometimes on the set, rather than yell 'Action,' he opted to fire guns off to get actors startled reactions.
His big budget, all-star cast movies 'The Swarm' and 'When Time Ran Out' were commercial and critical flops.
He cast his wife in many of his movies and had her guest appear in several of his TV series.

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from Columbia University with a degree in journalism.
In 1952, he won a 'Best Documentary Feature' Oscar for 'The Sea Around Us.'
Along with Rod Serling he helped launch the science-fiction TV craze that was prevalent in the 1960s and remains popular today.
'The Poseidon Adventure' and 'The Towering Inferno' were box office blockbusters that grossed hundreds of millions of dollars.
On his penchant for disaster films, he quoted, 'If I can blow up the world in the first ten seconds, the show is a flop.'
