After he was elected Tzar by a national assembly, it took a month to find the monastery where he and his mother were hiding.
His mother initially objected that Michael was too young and inexperienced to become tzar.
His parents were the power behind the throne throughout his reign.
He was described by one historian as 'not particularly intelligent, strong or healthy.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was also described as 'gentle and pious.'
Moscow was in such poor shape after decades of war that his arrival was delayed several weeks until decent accommodations could be found.
His first wife died after only four months of marriage.
His reign ended Russia's chaotic Time of Troubles and inaugurated a dynasty that would last three centuries.
