Why Hope, Arkansas might be annoying:

It is named for the daughter of the executive whose railroad ran through the locality.
Its official motto is a reference to its secondary claim to fame: watermelons (the largest specimen in the world!)
It gave America the gifts of Mike Huckabee and his daughter Sarah.
FEMA tried to designate land surrounding the Hope Municipal Airport as temporary housing for Hurricane Katrina victims but it proved a disaster - with the dilapidated trailers remaining there indefinitely for years on end.

Why Hope, Arkansas might not be annoying:

It began when a railroad was built through the territory.
    It set a record with a 268.8-pound watermelon (2005).
Bill Clinton's boyhood home was turned into a museum.
It converted its local railroad station into a museum dedicated to President Clinton.
It was referenced in Clinton's 1992 acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, which he closed with: 'I still believe in a place called Hope.'
It was hometown to Patsy Montana, Melinda Dillon, Congressman Mike Ross, and Vince Foster.
