Defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers (1998-99), St. Louis Blues (1999-2001), Atlanta Thrashers (2001-02) and the Phoenix Coyotes (2003-04)
Assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2010-14, 2020- ) and the Washington Capitals (2014-18)
Head coach for the Washington Capitals (2018-20)
Why he might be annoying
He was a journeyman player who spent the bulk of his career in the minor leagues.
He looks a lot older then he actually is.
He was promoted to head coach, due to the fact the Capitals didn't want to give Barry Trotz a pay raise when his contract expired at the end of the Stanley Cup winning season.
He failed to get the Capitals out of the first round of the playoffs in both seasons as the team's head coach.
He was fired by the Caps after it was rumored his team played in an uninterested manner during their time in the Toronto bubble, which contributed to their first round exit at the hand of the New York Islanders, coached by Trotz.
Why he might not be annoying
He earned a Stanley Cup ring as the lead assistant on the Capitals coaching staff (2018).
He had the support of his players, which played a role in his promotion to head coach.
He served as the head coach for the Metropolitan Division All-Star team (2019).
He was a blue collar defenseman, who paid his dues in the minors, before landing a spot on the Oilers.
