Why they might be annoying
Though their nickname is in reference to gold mines, it causes some people to think chicken nuggets.
They scored the second-most points ever in an NBA game; unfortunately the team they played that night had the highest scoring game ever (Detroit 186, Denver 184, triple overtime, 1983).
They retired a three-digit number in honor of a coach (yeah, it's how many wins he had, but is it really necessary?)
They used to be known for their ugly uniforms.
They started a trend of underclassmen jumping college early for the pros when they signed Spencer Heywood (1969).
Their mascot, Rocky, threw a cake at an unsuspecting woman.
Why they might not be annoying
Unlike the other three former ABA teams, they found success immediately when they joined the NBA.
They won division titles their first two years in the NBA.
Their 1981-82 team was the highest scoring team ever, scoring 126.5 points per game that season (they scored in triple digits every single game).
They were the first #8 seed team to win a first round series, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win the best-of-five series over the first seed Seattle SuperSonics (1994).
It provided the immortal scene of Dikembe Mutombo holding a basketball on the floor in shocked delight.
They drafted Carmelo Anthony, who lead them to the playoffs his first year.
