    He was a brush back/knockdown pitcher, saying: 'If one of our guys went down, I just doubled it. No confusion there. It didn't require a Rhodes scholar.'
    He holds the record of 154 batters hit by a pitch.
    He quipped: 'Why use four pitches to put someone on base intentionally when I can do it with one?'
    He and Sandy Koufax struck the Dodgers for thirty-two days, seeking an unprecedented 3-year, $1.05 million contract to be evenly divided. He even threatened retirement by signing a movie contract, but eventually signed for $105,000 (1966).
    He appeared as himself on 'Leave It to Beaver' (1962), 'The Brady Bunch' (1970) and 'The Greatest American Hero' (1981).
    He injured a woman in a car accident and was arrested for drunk driving (January 22, 1991).
    He was the last Brooklyn Dodgers to retire as a baseball player (August 11, 1969).
    He led NL pitchers in homers four times, twice tying the NL record of seven. He is second to Warren Spahn with most home runs by an NL pitcher with twenty-nine.
    In 1965, he won 20 games and hit .300.
    He pitched a then record with 58 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings (1968).
    He died of a heart attack hours after commentating the LA Dodgers-Montreal Expos game (July 3, 1993).
