The Resume

    (November 17, 1954-October 9, 2013)
Birth name was Mark Brandon Read
One of Australia's most infamous criminals
Author of the books 'Chopper, Chopper From The Inside,' 'Chopper 2, Hits and Memories,' 'Chopper 3, How to Shoot Friends and Influence People,' 'Chopper 4, For the Term Of His Unnatural Life,' 'Chopper 5, Pulp Faction,' 'Chopper 6, No Tears For A Tough Guy,' 'Chopper 7, The Singing Defective,' 'Chopper 8, The Sicilian Defence,' 'Chopper 9, The Final Cut' and 'Chopper 10½, The Popcorn Gangster'
Also wrote the illustrated novels 'The Adventures of Rumsley Rumsfelt' and 'Hooky The Cripple'
Appeared in the film 'Trojan Warrior (2003)'

Why he might be annoying:

He spent nearly half of his adult life in prison.
Women wrote letters and proposed to him while he was in prison.
He cashed in on his past criminal life by writing books about his experiences.
His books glorify violence and crime.
He was committed to mental institutions three times.
He cut off his own ears during one of his many prison terms.
During his time in prison he suffered a stab wound to the head (claw hammer), cuts to his neck and face (cut throat razors), a stab wound to the knee (butchers knife), multiple stab wounds to various parts of his chest and back (ice pick) and a stab wound to the heart (screw driver).
    He was heavily tattooed.
The entire 'Chopper Read' myth is greatly exaggerated.

Why he might not be annoying:

Eric Bana portrayed him in the bio-pic 'Chopper (2001).'
Ironically, his character in 'Trojan Warrior' was named Erik Bana.
His criminal activity was mainly directed at drug dealers and other criminals.
He appeared (without payment) in an Australian anti-drunk driving advertisement where he outlined the various injuries he suffered while in prison. His ad-line is 'If you drink and you drive…and you're unfortunate enough to hit somebody, you better pray to God you don't ever go to prison.'
He re-wrote the script for the anti-drunk driving ad and it subsequently won a Gold Lion at Cannes (2004).
Despite not possessing great literary skills, his books sold millions of copies in Australia,
He made a serious attempt at 'going straight' and wasn't charged with a crime since 1991.
