They were formerly called Total Concept Unlimited, then Magic Wand before settling on Rose Royce (taken from front singer Rose Norwal).
The car company Rolls Royce threatened legal action over copyright infringement.

They updated their most famous song in 1998 and released it as, what else, 'Car Wash '98.'
They've been through numerous line-up changes.
The 'Car Wash' hand clap intro has been sampled countless times by the rap community.

Other artists who've recorded their songs include Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Joe Cocker, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
They have a huge fan base in England.
