Vocalist

The Resume

    (August 4, 1940-March 30, 2004)
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
Birth name was Rosemarie Timotea Aurro
Recorded the singles 'Hurt' (1961), 'What's a Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You)' (1962), and 'Make the World Go Away' (1963)

Why she might be annoying:

She was a white woman who was often mistaken for a black man.
She was billed as 'Miss Timi Yuro' on some records to at least avoid gender confusion.
Her debut album was given the overemphatic title 'Hurt!!!!!!!'
After recording Burt Bacharach's 'The Love of a Boy,' she rejected the song he offered as a follow-up, 'What the World Needs Now,' which became a smash hit for Jackie DeShannon.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she was fourteen, she so impressed Lillian Goodman, the vocal coach for Frankie Laine, that Goodman gave her free voice lessons.
After two years of recording bland material for Liberty Records, she forced her way into a board meeting and sang Roy Hamilton's 'Hurt' for label president Al Bennett. Impressed, Bennett arranged for her to record the song with producer Clyde Otis, who had previously worked with Yuro's idol, Dinah Washington.
Frank Sinatra asked her to be his opening act on a tour of Australia (1962).
Other admirers included Elvis Presley (who reserved his own table at the casino lounge she played at whenever she headlined in Las Vegas) and Willie Nelson (who financed and produced her last album).
