Vocalist

The Resume

    (June 21, 1952- )
    Born in Detroit, Michigan
Birth name is Marcella Levy (aka as Marcy Levy)
    Session singer turned solo artist
Albums include 'Marcella (1982),' 'Jewel (1994),' 'Feeler (1996)' and 'Dancing Madly Sideways (1999)'
One half of Shakespears Sister (1989-93)

Why she might be annoying:

She stated that as a teen, when she felt emotionally distressed, she would lock herself in her bedroom and play and sing for hours until she felt better.
She's not fared well as a solo artist in the U.S. - her only Billboart chart song was 'Help Me!' in 1980 as a duet with Robin Gibb that reached #50.
Siobhan Fahey, former Bananarama member and her Shakespears Sister co-star, talked her into changing her name.
Fahey fired her from Shakespears Sister in 1993 for reasons unclear.
In 1996, she recorded 'I Hate You Now' and posted comments about Fahey on her website, but when asked if the song was directed at Fahey she said 'no' and claimed her husband was the actual comment poster.
She released the blues tinged album 'The Upside Of Being Down' in 2006 as the Marcy Levy Band, so perhaps she's not completely sold on the name change.

Why she might not be annoying:

She has a 4½ octave vocal range.
In the 1970s, she toured first with Bob Seger, then Leon Russell and eventually with Eric Clapton.
Her voice is not only heard prominently in Clapton's classic 'Lay Down Sally,' she helped write it (she co-wrote eight songs with him).
Artists she's recorded with include Aretha Franklin (her vocal idol), the Gap Band, Alice Cooper, Bette Midler, Melissa Manchester and Leo Sayer.
Artists she's written material for include Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Belinda Carlisle and Philip Bailey.
She backed-up Johnny Lee on his huge 1980 country crossover hit 'Lookin' for Love' (from the film 'Urban Cowboy').
In the 1980s, she's had three Top 40 hits on Billboard's U.K. Singles chart, including a remake of 'Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing' as a duet with Elton John.
She lent her voice for the recording and release of the 1990 album 'The Simpsons Sing the Blues.'
She portrayed an angel in a two-part 1996 episode of 'Absolutely Fabulous.'
She performed a full solo concert in London's Hyde Park to 17,000 folks gathered for the 13th Playtex Moonwalk to raise money for breast cancer research (May 2010).
