The Resume

    (April 4, 1916-July 13, 2005)
    Born in Nixa, Missouri
Birth name was Malcolm Arnold Owen
Catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals (1937-40), Brooklyn Dodgers (1941-45), Chicago Cubs (1949-51) and Boston Red Sox (1954)
    .255 batting average, 929 hits, 378 RBIs
    Four-time All-Star (1941-44)
Founded the Mickey Owen Baseball School (1959)

Why he might be annoying:

The Dodgers were one out away from evening the 1941 World Series at two games each when he dropped a third strike, allowing Tommy Henrich to reach first and the New York Yankees to win the game and then the series.
He was blackballed from Major League Baseball for three years after he signed a contract with the Mexican League (1946-49).
He ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Missouri (1980).

Why he might not be annoying:

Several writers say blame for the Game 4 loss in the 1941 Series should be assigned to pitcher Hugh Casey who allegedly threw a spitball without warning Owen.
In addition, after Henrich got on base Casey gave up four runs before finally getting that final out.
Ironically, during the 1941 regular season, he set a record for most errorless fielding chances by a catcher, with 508.
He served with the Navy at the end of World War II.
He served as sheriff of Greene County, Missouri (1964-81).
