    Portrayed the title role in the BBC radio adaptation of ‘Don Quixote’ (1980)
    Toured Australia in ‘No Sex Please, We’re British’ (1973) and Great Britain in ‘Oh! Calcutta’ (1981)

Why he might be annoying:

    He appeared in character as Jack Harper in Finnish ads for Lontoon Rakeet (‘London Drops’), a licorice candy.
    He had trouble finding acting jobs after ‘On the Buses’ due to typecasting.
    He became depressed over the lack of work.
    He disappeared from his home for five days, reappearing in Ireland after a televised appeal from his wife (1987).
    He attempted suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, but was rescued in time (1995).
    Eight years later, he successfully committed suicide by carbon monoxide in his garage.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Appropriately, he worked as a bus driver to pay his way through the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
    He wrote fifteen episodes of ‘On the Buses.’
    So many fans showed up at his wedding to Kim Benwell that he and the bride had to walk to the reception because their Rolls could not get through the crowds (October 1, 1971).
