At one point he was married to Zsa Zsa Gabor (1942 – 1947).
He married three times.
At age 89, he married for the third and final time.
His birth and death were coincidentally around the Christmas/New Year holiday season.
He is Paris Hilton's great-grandfather.

He was educated at St. Michaels College in Santa Fe and the New Mexico School of Mines.
He learned skills of the hotel business when his father rented out their large adobe house to traveling businessmen.
He founded the first coast-to-coast hotel chain.
