Why he might be annoying
He goes by the nickname 'Gooch.'
He killed his own career by drinking.
He developed a reputation of being a party boy, which was a source of friction between him and the Sharks.
He showed up on Jeremy Roenick's doorstep buck naked.
He held a grudge towards Doug Wilson, after the latter traded him to Minnesota hours after signing him to a contract extension.
In addition to his alcoholism, he began abusing drugs during his tenure with Winnipeg.
He admitted he didn't try his hardest upon signing with the Flames, as his alcohol abuse had gotten progressively worse.
Why he might not be annoying
He was a fourth generation Japanese-Canadian.
He, along with Mike Green were the lone bright spots on a terrible Saskatoon Blades team (2003-04).
He admitted part of his decline was trying to live up to the expectations of the contract he signed.
He was part of the deal that sent Brent Burns to the Sharks.
He defied the odds and made the Kings roster on a professional tryout contract.
