The Resume

    (1976- )
    PBS
    Produced by Terry Lickona
Playing the annual namesake festival in Austin, Texas (two acts in half-hour segments)
2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee

Why Austin City Limits might be annoying:

Austin, Texas, the Music Capital of the World!
It went through at least four different themes over its run.
Willie Nelson was in the pilot episode, shot October 1974 (though one other artist was taped ahead of him and that recording was scrapped).
At the original studio, restricted access to fire exits could affect up to 500 seats.
As the series gained steam, the city experienced a population boom punctuated by gridlock traffic and exorbitant rent charges.
It regularly risks being overrun by its namesake festival (which, ironically, was launched almost three decades later!).

Why Austin City Limits might not be annoying:

It was the inspiration for the annual namesake music festival.
It survived 34 seasons at Studio 6A on the University of Texas at Austin Campus.
It received its own dedicated studio in 2011.
It received two rare awards: the National Medal of Arts in 2003 – the first TV series so honored – and the institutional Peabody Award in 2011.
There was no discrimination on account of genre.
It was, ahem, instrumental in shattering particular notions about country music in general (and the redneck south stereotypes in particular).
