Why she might be annoying:

Her mother Elizabeth contracted HIV through a blood transfusion she received while giving birth to Ariel.
She contracted the HIV virus through her mother's breast milk, and her brother Jake also contracted HIV, in utero.
At the time of her diagnosis, HIV/AIDS research and medical treatment options were limited to adults due to ignorance of HIV rates among youth.
Due to lack of available treatments for children, an infection she received was a major factor in her death.
Her parents had difficulty finding psychiatric as well as medical assistance for her due to HIV/AIDS misconceptions at the time.
Her family did not publicly discuss their situation for Ariel and her brother's protection from discrimination, but they were forced to go public in 1989 due to the National Enquirer's plans to publish a story based on their battle with AIDS.
During her mother's advocacy for childhood AIDS research and treatment funding, there were issues of indifference among some administration officials in Washington, D.C..
She died of AIDS complications one week after her seventh birthday.

Why she might not be annoying:

She received her name from the inspiration of a spirit guide in Shakespeare's The Tempest and the Hebrew definition of Ariel meaning 'Lamb of God'.
Her situation drove her parents to advocate on behalf of children with HIV/AIDS for research and treatment options.
Her situation helped to inspire creation of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation which included the Ariel Project, aiming at research to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission.
She inspired The Beanie Baby 'Ariel', which was a successful fund raiser for AIDS research.
Her father remained uninfected with HIV, and her brother lives an active life with the virus.
