Why they might be annoying
This time, they didn’t show any exit confessionals from ousted players until the Final Five.
They carried over Redemption Island from the last cycle, even though many viewers didn’t think too highly of the format.
Once again, viewers had to watch some of the episodes kick off with scenes of Coach doing tai chi.
Although Russell wasn't there this time, his nephew was!
The show's already been to Samoa, but because the name Survivor: Samoa was already taken, they had to subtitle this cycle 'South Pacific.'
That would be like having two sports teams that share a stadium in L.A., and naming one 'Los Angeles' and the other 'California.'
They had to put up with Brandon’s frequent crying.
Christine 'pulled a Matt,' by winning several Redemption challenges in a row; yet she fell one challenge short of returning to the main game.
At the reunion show, nearly half of the castaways did not get to speak.
It brought Keith and Whitney together romantically, even though Whitney was married at the time.
Ozzy was voted out an unprecedented three times during the game.
Why they might not be annoying
For the first time ever, a former player’s blood relative become a Survivor castaway in his own right.
Edna was the only player to sit out any of the tribal challenges.
Figuring that the winner of the Redemption Island duel was due to return to the main game soon, Ozzy sacrificed himself at a Tribal Council, so that he could eliminate Christine and get right back into the game.
The strategy worked exactly as planned.
Ozzy eventually got sent to Redemption a second time, but returned to the game yet again, after 'pulling a Matt' himself.
Coach became more likable among viewers.
Edna announced her pregnancy at the reunion show.
Cochran provided some comic relief for this cycle.
They had, in the same game, a Rick Nelson and an Ozzy (but no Harriet!)
