Why he might be annoying
Under his rule there were unwarranted executions, forced labor, and famine slaughtering 2-3 million Cambodians.
He died during his trial in 1998.
It was his desire to turn Cambodia into a self-sufficient agrarian country, so he forced city people to work the fields, and executed the educated.
He forcibly marched all 2,000,000 people who lived in the capital (including those in the hospital) out of the city and into brutal work camps.
His forces emptied cites, burned books, demolished homes and desecrated temples.
They demolished all Western technology, from cars to medical equipment.
He killed 30% of the population of Cambodia in four years.
While studying in France, he failed his exams three years in a row, which may have led him to hating intellectuals.
Why he might not be annoying
He appealed to the lowest, least educated peasants.
He was left handed.
