Why he might be annoying:

He ended his friendship with the Prince of Wales - and destroyed his standing in society - when he responded to a snub by asking the Prince's companion, ‘Alvanley, who's your fat friend?'
He considered his gambling losses ‘debts of honor' and paid them immediately while allowing other bills to accumulate.
He fled to France to escape his creditors (1816).
He died insane from the effects of syphilis.
His first biographer said he ‘had too much self-love ever to be really in love.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite his lack of an aristocratic lineage or family fortune, his wit and charm enabled him to become friends with the Prince of Wales.
He established the suit and tie as standard business attire.
He popularized trousers rather than breeches in men's fashion.
When he was arrested and put in debtors' prison, his main complaint was that he had not been given time to dress properly (1835).
