The Resume

    (September 23, 1957- )
    Born in Anaheim, California
Portrayed Soon-Lee Klinger in AfterMASH, Keiko O’Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1991-92) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-99), and Dr. Kim in The O.C. (2003-06)
Appeared in the films ‘The Big Brawl’ (1980), ‘An Eye for an Eye’ (1981), ‘A Thousand Pieces of Gold’ (1990), ‘The Joy Luck Club’ (1993) and ‘Mulan’ (2020)

Why she might be annoying:

She has tried to shave an entire decade off her age, claiming that she was only 16 when she co-starred in AfterMASH and added the extra years on her agent’s advice so she would not be turned down for being too young.
If true, she would have been a remarkably precocious five-year-old portraying a fifteen-year-old princess in an episode of the short-lived TV adaptation of ‘Anna and the King.’ (1972)
She was a tour guide at Disneyland.
She considered becoming a broadcast journalist, but after a disillusioning year as an intern at a CBS-owned radio station, she decided to stick with acting.
She is another of Hollywood’s all-purpose Asians, having portrayed characters of Korean (AfterMASH), Chinese (Joy Luck Club), and Japanese (Star Trek) ethnicity.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the only non-Caucasian in her high school.
She noted, ‘Orange County was not as racially mixed back then. My parents used to send me to Taiwan in the summers to learn Peking opera and practice Chinese.’
She decided to have a recurring role on ‘Deep Space Nine’ instead of a full-time part so she could spend more time raising her children.
She attended the wedding of her on-screen husband, Colm Meaney (2007).
