    Announcer of ‘The Ernie Kovacs Show’ (1955-56), ‘Sale of the Century’ (1969-74), ‘To Tell the Truth’ (1973-77), ‘Tomorrow’ (1979-82), Late Night with David Letterman (1982-93) and The Late Show with David Letterman (1993-95)
    Appeared in the film ‘Mr. Saturday Night’ (1992)

Why he might be annoying:

    During his brief time hosting ‘Tic Tac Dough,’ he said ‘I was a second banana for so long, I was really getting fed up.’
    Despite working together for over a decade, he never was close to David Letterman. (Asked to describe their relationship, he replied, ‘I’ve never been to his house and he’s never been to mine, okay?’)
    He was replaced on ‘Late Night’ by Alan Kalter two decades after Kalter replaced him as the announcer on ‘To Tell the Truth.’
    His last gig was the providing the voice over for Old Navy’s ‘fashion show’ commercials.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
    He was a frequent announcer for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
    He could authoritatively deliver a line like, ‘From New York, mountain fortress of the ancient Aztecs, it’s Daaaavid Letterman!’
