Why Wagon Train might be annoying:

It was created after the ratings success of the B western movies being shown ad nauseam on the DuMont network.
The original wagon master was replaced after Ward Bond died during the series.
It switched from black-and-white to color for its seventh season, then switched back to black-and-white again for its eighth season.
It expanded to a 90-minute episode format (1963) but then returned to an hour length for its final season.
The regular cast was delegated to supporting roles for the guest stars.
It is not as popular or well-known as its western contemporaries, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Why Wagon Train might not be annoying:

    Wagons ho!
Each season started a new journey out west.
It featured John Wayne's only acting stint on a TV show (in an uncredited cameo).
It was very easy to get celebrities to appear on the show, as the episodes were usually written about the characters they would play.
Because it emphasized on the guest stars, it was able to survive many changes in the regular cast.
The producers had the stated goal of wanting their show match the quality of western movies.
It reached #1 in the ratings in Britain and the United States.
