Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname is 'Bong Tail.'
    His films are dark, bleak and violent.
    His debut feature 'Barking Dogs Never Bite' earned a positive, yet muted response, and it did not reach its financial break-even point until two years later.
    When his film 'Okja' premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the film was initially met with boos, mostly due to it being distributed by Netflix.

    While attending Yonsei University, he participated in student protests supporting the South Korean democracy movement in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
    He cited Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino as his influences.
    In 2017, Metacritic ranked him 16th on its list of the 25 best film directors of the 21st century.
    His films feature social themes, genre-mixing, black humor, and sudden mood shifts.
    His film 'Parasite' became the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
    He became the second Asian filmmaker to win a Best Director Oscar after Ang Lee.
    He was also the second person to win four Oscars in one ceremony since Walt Disney in 1953.
