    (June 12, 1819-January 23, 1875)
Born in Holne, England, United Kingdom
    Anglican priest

Why he might be annoying:

A witness to one of his speeches wrote that he had 'a faculty for falling into the most ungainly attitudes and making the most hideous contortions of visage and frame.'
His books have largely fallen out of favor due their unabashed Catholic bashing.
He got into a literary feud with John Henry Cardinal Newman -- who he accused (along with Roman Catholics in general) of lying, hypocrisy and effeminacy -- and came out the worse for it.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was appointed chaplain to Queen Victoria and private tutor to the Prince of Wales.
He denounced child labor and the exploitation of workers in his books.
He was one of the first religious figures to endorse Charles Darwin and natural selection.
He wrote, 'All we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.'
