Why he might be annoying:

Before he became a professional philosopher, he was an assistant to a cabinetmaker and an elementary school teacher.
He believed that we could know when a scientific theory is false, but never when it is true.
He was involved in a legendary and possibly fictitious fight with Ludwig Wittgenstein in which they dueled with fireplace pokers over the question of whether or not there are any real problems that philosophy can address.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was influenced by Albert Einstein.
He argued against logical positivism (the belief that sentences are meaningful if and only if they are capable of empirical verification).
He vigorously opposed Marxism and psychoanalysis.
Being Jewish, he had to flee Austria when it was annexed by the Nazis.
Queen Elizabeth II knighted him in 1965.
He was opposed to any political organization that attempted to limit human freedoms, be it of the left or the right.
He was one of the most important figures in the philosophy of science.
