The Resume

Formed in Liverpool as the The Mars-Bars in 1959
    1963 line-up:
Gerry Marsden - guitar and lead vocals
    Freddie Marsden - drums
    Les Chadwick - bass
    Les McGuire - keyboards
    Manager was Brian Epstein
    Record producer was George Martin
Recorded 'How Do You Do It?,' 'I Like It,' 'You'll Never Walk Alone,' 'I'm the One,' 'Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying,' 'I'll Be There' and 'Girl on a Swing'
Portrayed themselves in the 1965 film 'Ferry Cross the Mersey'

Why they might be annoying:

Their original keyboardist quit before they ever recorded.
Though they shared a manager, producer and hometown, they were constantly cast within the shadow of The Beatles.
Even their movie is referred to as Gerry & the Pacemakers' version of 'A Hard Day's Night.'
By 1966 they seemed to not be cool with teens and saw their records sales plummet, so they pulled the plug on their act, leaving several songs unreleased.
Gerry Marsden reformed the Pacemakers with new musicians in 1974 and again in 1993 to mark the 30th anniversary of his first hit song.

Why they might not be annoying:

Despite rumors to the contrary, they got along fine with The Beatles.
Their first three songs released in 1963 all climbed to #1 on the U.K. Singles chart, the first group to perform the feat and not duplicated until Frankie Goes To Hollywood did so in 1984.
All told they has six Top 10 singles in the U.K. and three Top 10 singles in the U.S.
Gerry explained the reason he always seemed to be smiling was because he loved performing and 'I get paid for enjoying myself.'
They were referenced in jest in the 1993 movie 'Wayne's World 2' - Cassandra gave Wayne an album of theirs and he remarked, 'I bet they actually have pacemakers by now.'
Gerry's brother Freddie, who after his drumming gig went on to establish the 'Pacemaker Driving School,' died of cancer at age 66 (December 9, 2006).
