Why he might be annoying:

He developed phenomenology.
He continued the tradition in continental philosophy of using long chains of words that make no sense when put together, and are mostly just made up anyway.
Martin Heidegger was a student of his, who later renounced his entire philosophy due to pressure from the Nazis.
His only interest with perception was with the immediate. He thought that if you went beyond the immediate, your mind will distort your perception.
He thought that philosophy should work like a scientific experiment.

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite his conversion from Judaism to Christianity, he was persecuted by the Nazis toward the end of his life.
He was a continental philosopher who was not afraid of logic.
He had a very supportive wife.
One of his sons died young.
He was a talented mathematician and scientist as well as a philosopher.
His work is extremely influential in some areas of philosophy.
