Why Barrow, Alaska might be annoying:

Its name was derived from Point Barrow, because non-native Alaskan residents found it easier to pronounce than the Inupiat name.
Will Rogers and Wiley Post died in a plane crash fifteen miles south en route to the city (August 15, 1932).
A referendum saw a narrow vote in favor of reverting the town back to its Inupiaq name (October 2016).
The vote came a year after Mt. McKinley was officially renamed the Denali (in both cases, most Alaskans continue to just use the original names, regardless of the referendum).
It has become a source of interest for climate scientists, as its Arctic region showed signs of warming three times the global average (cited as a consequence of global warming).

Why Barrow, Alaska might not be annoying:

John Denver filmed a TV special there in 1979.
The Drew Barrymore film ‘Big Miracle’ was filmed there.
Its population grew exponentially over a decade between 2010 and 2020.
The Blanket Toss Celebration is held the third week of June to celebrate the successful spring whale hunt and attracts participants from across the state.
The Whalers of Barrow High School football team played the first official game in the Arctic against Delta Junction High School (August 16, 2006).
The city’s airport was renamed the Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport as a memorial to the deceased humorist and the pilot.
It was home to the Inupiat-Inuit natives for more than 1,500 years.
