    (September 21, 1940- )
Local TV news anchor for WBIW in Topeka, Kansas, and WBBM in Chicago
Host of, 'Cold Case Files,' 'American Justice,' 'The New Explorers,' and 'Investigative Reports'
He is described as 'The shoulder-shrugging host of American Justice.'
He makes it a point to let viewers know that further juicy tidbits of the story are coming up right after the commercial break.
The subject of his shows have drifted almost exclusively towards murders that involve DNA or other scientific methods of investigation.
When tapes surfaced of Richard Speck's antics while in jail, he jumped on the story and fought to produce and narrate a special report on them.
The subsequent report was panned by many critics, described as being 'tabloid-like.'
He obtained a degree in law in 1966, passed the Kansas state bar exam, then became a news anchor.
He is a rarity in investigative reporting, telling the full story on both sides of an issue, and not sensationalizing the subject matter.
He started his own production company.
He took his first television reporter position as something to tide him over until he was able to get the job he wanted as a lawyer.
He then decided to become a full-time journalist after covering a particularly severe tornado in Kansas for 24 hours straight.
He owns an 8000 acre organic cattle ranch in Kansas.
He spends much of his time in Sedan, Kansas, a near ghost town that he is renovating in an attempt to attract tourism.
He lost his wife to cancer in the late 1970's.
The Richard Speck report is considered his only blemish as a journalist.
