    Born in Sarsina, Italy
    Full name was Titus Maccius Plautus
    Comedic playwright
    Works include ‘Pseudolus,’ ‘Miles Gloriosus,’ ‘Mostellaria’ and ‘Menaechmi’

Why he might be annoying:

    Before becoming a playwright, he was a merchant who went bankrupt after investing his fortune in a failed nautical venture.
    He wrote an estimated 130 plays, but only 21 survive in complete versions.
    Most of his comedies were adopted from earlier Greek plays.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His surviving plays are the oldest known Latin literary works.
    He coined the phrase ‘Practice what you preach’ in the play ‘Asinaria.’
    His plays inspired works ranging from Shakespeare’s ‘Comedy of Errors’ to the Tony Award winner ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.’
