Why she might be annoying:

    She was born into privilege.
At 17, upon marrying Prince George III Valentin Bibescu, she wrote: 'I stepped onto the European stage through the grand door....'
Her extensive journaling began after she traveled, bored with her roles as wife and new mother.
She enjoyed an open marriage, including a decade-long affair with a French prince, dedicated 4 books to her British lover, and indulged in flings with Alfonso XIII of SpainColette's husband Henri De Jouvenel.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her baby sister and mother committed suicide.
Her writings were both critical and commercial successes.
Proust praised her, writing, 'You are not only a splendid writer, Princess, but a sculptor of words, a musician, a purveyor of scents, a poet.'
Celebrated for her beauty and intellect, a 2001 Romanian poll listed her as the most influential woman of the 20th Century and the Millennium.
Because she put up with her husband's countless dalliances he presented her with a palace, Mogosoaia (1912).
