    Born in Greenwood, Mississippi
    Recorded the singles 'You're No Good' (1963), 'The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)' (1964), 'Let It Be Me' (with Jerry Butler, 1964), 'Getting Mighty Crowded' (1965) and 'There'll Come A Time' (1969)

Why she might be annoying:

    She was a gospel turned pop singer.
    She is remembered almost solely for 'The Shoop Shoop Song.'
    She was reluctant to record 'The Shoop Shoop Song,' thinking that it was silly and a probable flop.

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her songs were covered by Linda Ronstadt ('You're No Good'), Cher ('The Shoop Shoop Song') and Elvis Costello ('Getting Mighty Crowded').
    She received the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's Pioneer Award (1995).
    She gave her last performance a year before her death, dueting with Butler in the PBS special 'Doo Wop 51.'
