    Her father committed suicide when she was 13.
    She was a tireless patroness of jazz, who hosted jam sessions in her hotel suite.
    She tirelessly promoted the careers of numerous jazz artists.
    Countless compositions are dedicated to her, including 'Tonica,' 'Nica's Dream,' 'Blues for Nica' and 'Nica's Tempo.'
